Tanya Gandy

Junior attacker Tanya Gandy (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo HS) of the UCLA women's water polo team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week (May 5-11).

Gandy was named the MVP of the NCAA Tournament after totaling five goals in the semifinals and finals to help lead UCLA to its fourth consecutive NCAA title. In the semifinal match against UC Davis, Gandy scored three consecutive goals to start the third quarter to turn a tight 3-2 advantage into a 6-2 lead. The Bruins went on to win by a score of 11-4. In the NCAA Championship match against USC, Gandy gave UCLA an early lead with the game's first goal and then scored the final goal of the half to give UCLA a 5-1 halftime lead. The Bruins cruised to a 6-3 victory to finish the season 33-0 for the second time in four years.

This is Gandy's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
